I have been teaching at 赌博娱乐平台网址大全 in the 古典研究 Department since 2010, aside from two years (2013-14, 2015-16) spent on leave in Germany, at the University of Heidelberg, on an Alex和er von Humboldt 研究 Fellowship. Before I came to 赌博娱乐平台网址大全, I worked in the Classics departments at the University of Washington, 西雅图, the University of Texas at Austin. My Classics teaching includes language courses—advanced 拉丁 和 all levels of 古希腊—as well as a rotating trio of ancient literature 和 history courses—古典神话, 古代小说, The World of Late Antiquity. In addition, I regularly teach in the First-Year Experience, Great Books of the Ancient World (known as 呼玛); I am currently also the director 和 co-ordinator of 呼玛, which comprises the FYE 和 呼玛 2301.

My research focuses on the so-called "Second Sophistic," or the renaissance of Greek literature 和 culture under the High Roman Empire (roughly 50-250 CE), but I am also interested in ancient narrative prose, 文学批评, historiography of all periods. 我的书, 首页r between History 和 Fiction in Imperial Greek Literature (剑桥, 2010) looks at some of the ways in which the extent of 首页r's knowledge of the Trojan War was debated, 辩护, mocked by four Greek writers of the Empire: the geographer Strabo, the orator Dio of Prusa, 讽刺作家卢西安, the writer Philostratus. The book was awarded the 2011 查尔斯·J. Goodwin Award of Merit as an outst和ing contribution to classical scholarship from the Society for 古典研究 (formerly the American Philological Association).

My recent publications (listed below, for more visit my 学术界.edu页面) reflect my ongoing research on various aspects of Greek culture under the Roman Empire: 文学批评, 散文风格, 这部小说, the reception of 首页r, 更广泛地说, Imperial Greek authors' perception 和 underst和ing of their past. My two current long-term projects, which combine many of these interests, focus on 'anti-classicizing' movements in the Second Sophistic 和 are tentatively titled The Idea of the Archaic in Imperial Greek Culture 和 The Politics of Style in Imperial 希腊.
